TripIt launches Blackberry beta – the review

The beta email arrived about one hour ago and I am loaded and ready on the BlackBerry Storm.  You go through the normal steps to download OTA (over the air) the application itself.  From there you are welcomed with the following screen forcing you to the mobile web to authorize the mobile application:

What I liked about this is the control you have on the web to de-authorize the mobile application at any time in case your device is stolen.  Many of the local applications are trusted to run on the Blackberry itself, but not to access your remote data.

Once this is complete, you log into the application locally from the following screen.  While you can store your credentials, it is just an extra step to type in your username and password each time.  The choice is yours.

It the goes and pulls your trips, shared trips and and other information.  Opening any trip then shows the details you have sent in and makes it a friendly experience.

What took this to the next level is the sync to your BlackBerry calendar, which takes your trip information right into the calendar.  Which in turn for me takes the tips information back into Lotus Notes.  Not the way I wrote about previously that Lotus Notes has a widget that is really a HTTP mobile web access.  But a true sync.  Not even an iCal feed.  I love it.  You can enable the updates to occur from 5 minutes and in numerous increments up to one day or manual.

There are not many other settings at this early release, but this look to be promising for sharing and managing trips for the traveler with the BlackBerry.  I did get prompted to log in again since I did not let it store my credentials, but until I see how it fully works I will follow that thought process.

  • I just installed it as well - "awesome", "love it", "best thing since sliced bread" etc. ...
Seriously, for an avid Tripit user like me this is just great, getting things into my calendar are so much easier now.
