Mobile Passport app from US Customs – review

Recently US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) launched the Mobile Passport application for everyone entering through select airports. The Mobile Passport allows you to skip the lines and even the new automated kiosks and head straight to a special (hopefully quicker and shorter) line.  At the time of writing this there were five airports currently live and the ability to email them your next choices.

The Mobile Passport App by Airside Mobile lets you skip the line at US airports for Custom and Border Protection (CBP). Just fill out your profile and answer CBP’s questions – then go straight to the “Mobile Passport Control” express lane at the airport!

To get the application you can head to the official MobilePassport.us website and click the links for the iOS or Android versions so you know you are getting the real CBP apps.  While I did not find any fake ones yet, you will be scanning and entering your actual US Passport information so I would make sure it is the real one you are downloading.

Us Mobile Passport setup

Setup of the application itself was quite simple.  You enter your profile information from your official US Passport. This includes taking a picture of yourself and then scanning the barcode on your passport or entering it all manually.  I did this step both ways and like the scanning but did not get it to work every time.  Another bonus is that a single family can all use one app.  Each person needs a profile/entry into the application. but you do not all need the app on your phone.  Individuals travelling would need the app installed.

How to revoke and block third-party Instagram app access to your account

instagram logo

How do you revoke and block third-party app access to your Instagram account? Here are the steps required. Instagram has numerous third-party applications that people are allowing access to their account by loading them on their devices and via the web.

Everytime you add another application, it prompts you to log in using your Instagram username and password via their authentication API. By doing this, you are then giving certain rights to that application.  Some rights you may give are:

  • Access your basic information (Includes photos, friend lists & profile info)
  • Like photos
  • Comment on photos
  • Follow/Unfollow other users

Keep in mind some of these apps only do the above with your express permission, while others may do it automatically.  You have to pay special attention to what permissions the third-party app is looking for. To start checking what apps have what access and to revoke third-party access you need to access your Instagram account via the web.

Once logged in, click on your image and name in the upper right and select Edit Profile. You will then get a list of options on the left side that allow everything from changing your password, editing your profile and managing applications.  That is where we are headed.

Findables FlexStand iPhone 5 case review from Findables.Me

Findables.Me FlexStand for iPhone 5

The Findables FlexStand iPhone 5 case was sent over from Findables.Me.  You may wonder why am I running a phone case review here? Well it is a socially enabled case using a QR code. I loved the idea of this case and generally enjoyed the functionality, but I did find a few issues.  Watch the video or read some of my notes below.

Findables cases, from Findables,Me, have a small QR code on the corner of the case, that when scanned, will present the person with a social profile that you establish. As the case owner you control which profile is being at shown at that time for sharing.  There are three social profile modes available:
